Singapore Airlines Cargo Starts Services to Atlanta

November 18, 2009

Singapore Airlines Cargo has commenced a weekly westbound Boeing 747-400 freighter service to Atlanta. The flight from Singapore is routed via Hong Kong, Anchorage and Los Angeles, and the return flight is via Brussels and Sharjah.

The airline mounted a series of ad hoc charter services to Atlanta in September 2009 before deciding on a scheduled service, which began on October 29, 2009.

“This service will directly link Atlanta to its export markets in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The greater accessibility to Atlanta will certainly help to promote the city as a major gateway for the freight industry in the Southeastern Region of the US,” said Mr Tan Tiow Kor, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing.

Major imports for Atlanta are consumer products such as electronics from Asia. Major exports from Atlanta include heavy machinery parts to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The schedule with effect from October 29, 2009 (all local time) is as follows:

Singapore Airlines Reduces Capacity

February 23, 2009

On February 17, the management of Singapore Airlines met with leaders of the three staff unions and discussed the airline’s response to falling demand. The company plans to reduce capacity in the coming financial year, commencing April 2009 and ending March 2010, by 11% from the preceding 12 months.

In the course of the year, 17 aircraft will be decommissioned from the operating fleet. This marks an increase over an original plan to phase out just four, including one for conversion to a freighter.

Other changes include the withdrawal of service to Amritsar (from February 2009) and Vancouver (from April 2009), a reduction in the frequency of flights to India, and a cutting back of non-stop flights between Singapore and the United States.

A detailed table showing route and frequency changes can be viewed on Singapore Airlines’ Web site.
